Creating Collections

Why create collections of artworks?

Artists create art collections to showcases a cohesive body of work that represents their artistic vision, style, or thematic exploration. Collectors build collections of artists’ work to stand the test of time, to decorate their homes and as an investment. Art collections are therefore important to both the artist and the collector.

For Investors

If we explore this further, besides an art collection offering beauty and interest to a living space, investing in art can help to build artistic knowledge and broaden creative horizons. As a collector expands his or her collection, they will learn about the art world, an artist’s work, develop a knowledge of market trends as well as art that complements their home. Many people believe that to collect art you have to be wealthy, sit in private auctions, spend millions on buying art, only to sell them years later when their value rises.

Art lovers should start by appreciating art in the first instance and begin collecting artworks for aesthetic reasons alone, to express their specific tastes. Becoming collectors they are more than likely to recognise emerging talent in purchasing art that is affordable, before an artist becomes well known. Developing an eye, spending time appreciating art, visiting art galleries and emerging artists’ exhibitions, can help to broaden their knowledge base and brighten their home with beautiful pieces, found at affordable prices as an investment. An art collection offers a world of colour, is a great talking point, beautifies your home, creates stories, and unites people.

For Artists

Whether you are an emerging artist or an established one, understanding the significance of art collections will enhance and empower your artwork. Paying particular heed to planning, quality and cohesiveness of your art collections, to represent a particular theme, is the best way to attract buyers and collectors.  Your collection can be showcased on your online store as a webpage gallery and as a portfolio to showcase to galleries and promote your artistic work.

In conclusion

Finally, if you are a collector, do take the time to enjoy art and discover what you like or dislike in an artist’s work, dabble in the art world and fill your home with beautiful pieces. As an artist, plan your collections and, whether you produce one collection, or several over the year, collections will energise your practice and help you to develop and grow your expertise and skill.

Below are shown a small set of four original acrylic paintings on canvas representing the Four Seasons throughout the year.  These paintings have also been used as designs for cushions and journals.  Please check out my other collections on my website - www.patriciajvalentiart.com
